ARTIST STATEMENT
WHAT I THINK & WHY I CREATE

Art serves a different function for everyone. Some artists want to make a statement - I like to be amused. I make art that I want to look at for a long time, that makes me smile when I see it and think, “Hey, who did that? ……..oh yeah, it was me.”

I am a painter and collage artist who creates images using two different collage techniques. One is mixed media collage, where I combine found images with my own painted parts, the other is what I call painted collage where I draw, paint, cut apart, reassemble and glue all of the random parts that I created onto a painted canvas board. I paint and work in various other art forms, but what I love about collage is the freedom to combine images in unexpected ways and how these images evolve as the pieces are moved around. With this process, each movement can dramatically change the characters expression and body language from one minute to the next.

I've strived for years to come up with my own style and unique approach to making art and that is how my painted collage technique was born.

ARTIST BIO

Debbie Egizio has worked as a Designer for several national decorating magazines, contributing to over 60 issues, 15+ covers and creating hundreds of how-to projects and set designs. Her projects and designs have been published in two books and in numerous newspaper articles from around the country. They have also been showcased on HGTV's Country Style for 2 seasons and on WGN, where she demonstrated various paint techniques, floral designs and decorating projects during live broadcasts.

In addition to all of this, Debbie is an accomplished artist who specializes in painting and collage. Her work can be seen in several galleries and shops in the Chicago area and will be showcased on HGTV’s That’s Clever show in 2008. The artwork that Debbie creates has an ethereal quality with a touch of whimsy and many of her pieces exude a nurturing gentleness that comfort the soul of the observer. Debbie has been influenced by her many trips to Italy as a child where she was immersed in the rich art that is found all throughout the country and by the beautiful artworks found in children's books that she drank in as a child. She also credits her brother for exposing her to the wackiness of Mad Magazine and Monty Python (Specifically Terry Gilliam's collage animations) at a young age, which seem to have impacted her work as well.
